Day 10, Tuesday
Chicago, Illinois
Raining and windy and foggy like you wouldn’t believe!
This post by: Craig
Chicago is the ‘windy city’. Today, it’s also the foggy city and the rainy city, quite different to the snow-covered winter wonderland we had on our last visit. But still, it’s CHICAGO, so it’s AWESOME!
Fully, it was a Tuesday morning in the middle of the city, and there was a farmer’s market! And then there was Intelligentsia Coffee, which is the best coffee around. Hyeppy thaaames, hyeppy thaaames.
Oh yeah, and we’re staying at the HILTON, BITCHES! :)
Yes, it turns out that if you ever look up www.hotwire.com in Chicago and find an $80 a night, 4 star hotel on the mystery list, then you can be pretty sure it’s the Hilton. So yeah, we accepted a $29 upgrade when we checked in and BOOM, we had an express, fancy pants elevator to our floor...
...access to the ALL YOU CAN SCOFF LIKE A TIGHT-ASS BASTID hors d’oeuvres in the Executive Lounge, free breakfast, free soft drinks, and they give you permission to act like a RICH TWAT even if you’re scraping the last of your holiday budget TOOTOOOOOT!!!
Our 7am arrival meant that we had to wait for a room, however, so we went to the library to blog. Having taken the Red Eye plane overnight, surviving on 4 hours sleep for 2 days, we were both shambling zombies. OLD school zombies, not these sprint-running Will Smith kind.
We finally hit the room and had a nap ‘for only 2 hours, then we’ll get up’. We were down for 5, and even then it was hard to wake up – like our brains were trying to swim through honey. Finally woke up to find the nastiest burger being advertised on TV… “The Double Butter Burger with Cheese” Sweet jebus, I’m glad we’re vegetarians.
So we spruiced up and hit the Executive Lounge on the 23rd floor. Of the HILTON, BITCHES! Cheese platter, for freebies! SOOO much cheese. Also had hommus and dips, then Bloody Marys (we had to PAY for the drinks, oh the NERVE, don’t they know that we’re in the EXECUTIVE SUITES?) Aaaaahaha. Bam.
And then we just chilled in the room, watching Ricky Gervais on the laptop and having a lazy beer from the ice bucket. It had been a long few days. Aaaah.
